Description
SAX 2563 MILSTEIN Music of Old Russia 1st Label Columbia Red Semi
A check on other sites will show that you will probably need to pay over £250 for a ‘mint’ copy of this LP. Normally the classical LP market requires discs to be flawless. However, in view of this LP’s rarity you have an opportunity here to bid for a copy with minor flaws.
The disc is on the earliest Columbia label for this catalogue number and was made in Britain. The label text reads “Recording first published 1963” and has the usual “SOLD IN UK…) message printed just above the centre hole. The matrix numbers on the run-outs are: S-1-36002-A-3 and S-2-36002-B-4. The original sleeve is a G&L flip-back, laminated on the front. Sleevenotes on the back are by James Lyons.
Programme
Nathan Milstein, violin, (with orchestra conducted by Robert Irving) plays works by Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Glazounov, Moussorgsky and Rachmaninov.
Condition of Disc
The disc is flat; the playing surfaces are glossy and clean and under strong light they generally show only the faintest signs of wear. The centre labels are free of writing, sticky labels or marks and there are only slight signs of wear around the centre hole. On Side 2 there are three light surface marks that at high volume, produce several faint ticks (not loud intrusive clicks). Overall the disc plays beautifully with negligible high-frequency loss and only the very faintest of background noise associated with vinyl. I have graded the disc conservatively as VG (Record Collector).
Condition of Sleeve
The sleeve is a little grubby, but with no writing, sticky labels or tears. There is slight shelf/handling wear along edges and at corners. On the front at the top, the laminate has been scored (see photo), but this damage has not penetrated the cardboard. The inner sleeve is polythene-lined paper, which may not be original.
Delivery cost outside Europe is £6.11
Compensation for loss or damage during delivery:
The standard maximum compensation for loss or damage during delivery is £41, and the delivery costs are quoted on this basis. However compensation up to £500 is normally available at increased cost and this will be offered as an option if the winning bid is larger than the standard compensation value. Please enquire about the cost of this option before paying for the item.
