SAX 2563 Music of old Russia MILSTEIN / IRVING UK Columbia S/C LP 1st press
These records are all from my personal collection built up over almost 50 years. Some were bought new, others pre-owned so condition will vary. Please do read and understand the detailed description which is my honest personal assessment - you can always check how good or bad that is by checking my feedback. My attempt at grading is based on the commonly used Record Collector grading system (except I will not use 'Mint' for any LP particularly one of 40+ years old). It took me a long time to find my copy of this very hard to find first issue of Milstein's Music of old Russia. It is on the original Columbia semi-circle label (which may actually be the only vinyl pressing) and has mother/stamper combination of 1G/1R which would place it amongst the first 500 copies to be pressed.
Please note that it is not in perfect condition - it has a number of faint surface scrapes which do cause a certain amount of background crackling so if you want perfect clarity then this may not be the copy you seek. Having said that, it's very acceptable, not trashed, and may be an affordable alternative as the near perfect copies have averaged close to £1000 recently. Please read the description fully and check out all the photos so you know exactly what is on offer - and good luck with your bids.
Condition:
The record is housed in a front-laminated single sleeve with flipbacks in excellent condition.There is light laminate creasing towards the opening edge, otherwise it has minimal wear. The edges are strong and the spine is crisp and well defined with fully legible text. The record has an original poly-lined EMI inner.
The vinyl has the red Columbia semi-circle labels, clean and bright with no stickers or writing. Just a small number of visible spindle marks on each side. The vinyl itself has good lustre and looks quite nice - however examination under strong light shows maybe more than usual of the customary light surface scrapes normally associated with removal from sleeves. There are no deep marks or scratches. As mentioned above, it plays with a certain amount of background crackling, probably a combination of the paper scrapes and fifty years' worth of dust/static build-up (as with many records of this age, it might benefit from cleaning on professional grade equipment, something I have not done). If this were a rock/blues album it would probably grade at VG+ but as a classical item I would guess it grades at VG
Overall:
An acceptable copy of a very rare album in an excellent sleeve. I'd guess that this might be professionally graded at (cover / vinyl) EX / VG

These amounts include estimated actual Royal Mail cost for first class or air mail signed-for service with insurance up to the Royal Mail maximum of £250, (sent in a brand new custom mailer with stiffener).
International bidders welcome, but postage to some locations will be handled by the eBay global shipping program - unfortunately I have no control over the onward shipping cost, just the UK leg which will cost as above.
Losses: Royal Mail compensation on normal signed-for shipments is up to £50. More expensive items incur a higher shipping cost which will then include insurance up to the Royal Mail maximum of £250. (Above this amount, alternative carriers would have to be used at significantly higher cost)

The time has come to sell my whole vinyl collection - which embraces both popular and classical - as I know it won't be appreciated by my daughter or grandchildren, so I'm shifting it myself and hope I find good homes for it. Listed items are selected at random so there should be a decent if not particularly logical mix coming up over the next few months if you keep an eye on my other items now and in the future.
