Description
SB 2058, Solti, Venice RCA LIVING STEREO RED/SILVER
Solti, Venice.
Georg Solti and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.UK pressed RCA Records Living Stereo LP, SB 2058. Earliest red and silver label issue with Decca groove and 2D/3D matrix suffixes.
Visually vinyl in EX condition. A few spider trace marks visible at centre spindle areas, but not excessively so. Vinyl surfaces have a rich and bright gloss still and display just a very few superficial hairline paper scuffs. No deep marks or scratches, and no marks which are immediately visible. General appearance is that of a carefully played and handled LP.
Playback is generally very clean and bright. The surfaces are quiet and the LP has clean undistorted sound without groove wear. There is the odd instance of very light static pops and crackle, but these instances are very few and far between, and not loud enough or prolonged enough to present any great distraction to listening pleasure. There are no loud or continuous ticks or clicks, and the LP still provides a very satisfactory listening experience.
Labels have a good appearance still, and neither has any damage, stickers, inscriptions etc.
Distinctive orignal pink print inner sleeve is in excellent condition, with neat catalogue number penned to one top corner.
Unique die-cut outer sleeve has survived in very good condition. The die-cut areas have suffered no rips or tears, although have a couple of joint creases. Else front panel still has a very clean appearance, with just light shelf rubbing. No pen or sticker marks. Rear panel is also very clean, and has not suffered rubbing or ringwear, although has a minor crease line to top left hand corner. Slighly rubbed and chipped at tips and extremities, although spine still has an overall good appearance, and there is no seam splitting or fraying. Internally the sleeve and inset colour booklet are in excellent condition, with just a very few of the most minor of tan storage spots to bottom of rear inner.
On the whole a very well preserved issue.
Tracks:La Traviata, Prelude to Act I (Verdi)
L'Italiana In Algeri, Overture (Rossini)
La Traviata, Prelude to Act III (Verdi)
The Tales Of Hoffmann, Barcarolle (Offenbach)
Semiramide, Overture (Rossini)
La Gioconda, Dance of the Hours (Ponchielli)
A Note On Grading:Note that audio grading is subjective and based on sensitivity of equipment used for playback. In this instance playback has been tested on a vintage Technics Quartz Direct Drive SL1700 MKII turntable with Shure cartridge, Technics SU-C 03 amp and Technics SB-F2 Linear Phase speakers.
Also note that I generally do not clean vinyl unless so noted. Most vinyl will show improved playback quality with your preferred cleaning method, but I leave this to the prospective buyer, as controversy still surrounds the ideal method of cleaning vinyl. Instances of crackle near the beginning of sides can often be improved with cleaning, as these areas of the vinyl surfaces are the most prone to debris from handling.
