UNPLAYED MINT GEM 45/SLEEVE!

Parlophone issued this Love Me Do single in 2012 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first Beatles UK 45.  It includes a heavy-duty cardboard cover that duplicates the 1962 sleeve.  This UNPLAYED MINT GEM is the "corrected" version with Ringo on drums.

There's a lot of confusion about the difference between this release and the original 2012 "error" with Andy White on drums.  If you don't have the patience (or eyesight) to read the matrix numbers, there's an easier way to tell them apart.  The first, rare Andy White 45 has grey lettering on its labels.  The "corrected" Ringo Starr version we offer here has silver lettering.

The difference in the two recordings is also simple: if you hear a tambourine, that's Ringo.  This is the version with sessionman Andy White on drums, leaving Mr. Starkey to bang the tambourine and wonder if he was going to be fired next (just a few months after the band had brusquely dismissed Pete Best).  This Andy White version was used on U.S. Decca singles in 1962, and MGM's in 1964. 

If there's no tambourine, then you've got Ringo on drums.  This was the recording used for 1962 UK and 1964 Canadian 45s.  Whew!  Glad we straightened that out...
