PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Original first 1968 pressing by Southern California's THE GIANT CRAB, their first and decidedly best of two Lp's
The beginning: After a spoken word intro to a horror movie, a GIANT CRAB comes forth out of the sea, and the guitars play happy sunny melodies with good effects, there is a groovy organ sound, nice vocal arrangements, sometimes with an effective full backing section. A good sleeve design, an entertaining story, a really versatile album, the GIANT CRAB rules the world !
"Giant Crab" climbed out of Santa Barbara, California, at the end of the 60s. Our guess is that the band was ignited by "Sgt Pepper", and although both albums of this little-known teen-scene band remain overshadowed by other, more commercially successful names, they do deserve to stand behind the eponymous Beatles' masterpiece.
Both of their albums were produced by Bob Holmes, and give an impression of an over the top union between John Meek (unusual sounds and experimenting with noises) and Phil Spector (exaggerated rich arrangements hostile to original concept). Actually, it may have been advisable to keep the producer on Valium or sedated otherwise - to restrain him from crashing the melodies with Spector'esque wall of sound.
The band was surprisingly versatile and prolific, covering as many genres and styles as possible. Initially, before venturing into psychedelia, the got a strong stroke of sunshine pop and mild West Coast, and stylistically belong more to the 60s (the vocals and compositions are under strong influence of British invasion). The apocalyptic intros on the debut album and its sequel, "Cool It ... Helios" (1969) narrated by Johnny Fairchild (although Vernon Joynson ascribes it to Dave Diamond), are pre-dating the concept and performance of "Journey To The Centre Of The Earth". "Hot Line" is an accomplished psychedelia, while "Lydia Purple" is melodious acid rock. "Thru The Fields" has the abandon of Russian gypsies song (remember "These Were The Days"?), and the album also features immortal pop hit "Ho Ho Silver Lining" and superb groover of rare refinement "Why I am So Proud?" So, all in all, the band have considerable talent and there are many worthwhile self compositions with cool moves throughout... The "Giant Crab" disbanded after their second album, and never made it big. Regretfully so as they were an extremely interesting and talented band, perhaps as good as the underrated "Tea Company"
