Description
SCARCE PARAMOUNT 78 rpm BLUES by BLIND LEMON JEFFERSON
1920s RACE record 78rpm:
BLIND LEMON JEFFERSON
-12728-A (20749) Competition Bed Blues (Lemon Jefferson). Vocal Guitar Acc.
-12728-B (20772) Sad News Blues (Lemon Jefferson). Vocal Guitar Acc.
DESCRIPTION:
"Lemon Henry "Blind Lemon" Jefferson (c1893 - 1929) was an American blues and gospel singer-songwriter and musician. He was one of the most popular blues singers of the 1920s and has been called the "Father of the Texas Blues".
OVERALL CONDITION:
No Chips or Cracks on the playing surface, however there are two stress-cracks forming under the label on the A-side - radiating out from the center hole (see detailed scan below). These two cracks have NOT yet weakened the record in any serious way and do not affect its play. Overall GREYING and numerous SCRATCHES & MARKS. A "well-played" record.
The PARAMOUNT label on both sides is in good condition and quite readable.
PLAYING ON MY PLAYER:
Both sides have the usual snaps, crackles & pops. A-side has several scratched areas where the needle "clicks" a bit but doesn't skip or get stuck. The background noise on both sides is quite significant and about "equal" in sound to the playing music. The voice & music still comes through audibly.
This is a scarce classic Blues record on the PARAMOUNT label still in "playable" condition.
The following scan shows front and reverse of this old record and both sides of its PARAMOUNT label:
