We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. The 'Hogs pour out the pig iron. Hoofed-heavy, filthy, gluttonous and gloomy. Smelting blues-boom based overlapped with voluminous power-rock moves.
The 1974 UK-only release "Solid" snorts out the eccentric, existential despair schizo side of "The 'Hog" (master guitar/vocals of this ceremony, Groundhog Tony McPhee).
Bringing back his rhythm section from 1973 LP 'Hogwash', (ex-EGG) drummer Clive Brooks and long time Groundhogs bassist, Pete Cruickshanks got together and recorded this album in McPhee's home studio. An LP all about Tony McPhee and his multi-tasked additions of Mellotron and the then latest synthesizer with a ring modulator, phasers and wah-wahs and even on some tracks sending his gruff vocals through a vocoder with muddled effects, at times being calculated experimental for the heavy blues rock styles within.
The Mellotron morbidly magnifies the melancholy, manic-depressive lyrical content and shadily blends the bog bottom blues and the progressive moves with stabbing signature shifts throughout three of the best tracks off the album, "Light My Light", "Sins Of The Father" and "Snowstorm". These three songs would be a mainstay in the 'Hogs' live performances for the next two and half decades.
"Free From All Alarm" opens up acoustically, but McPhee can't make it without engaging electrification half way through the track. The first part of this tune has a great greasy groove of swampy country gliding over boogie; "let the strings slide and sing".
"Corn Cob" is the bacon of the Groundhogs. Barbequed blues rocker!
"Plea Sing, Plea Song". McPhee welcomes us to "Joker's Grave" as it captures his capricious center of his personality. An eccentric showcase of synthesized and erratic guitar noodling. Overload of many sound-effects on the listeners brain.
The Groundhogs disbanded after this release but McPhee put together a new lineup two years later and released two albums in 1976, 'Black Diamond' and 'Crosscut Saw'. The 'Hogs didn't "sell out" to the "mainstream" as so many of their contemporaries from the "heyday" of hard blues rock late '60's/early '70s did.
