Description

VARIOUS ARTISTS - "SCOUSE THE MOUSE" 1977 UK LP

On offer is a rare original 1977 UK 15-track VINYL LP on the Polydor label (2480 429), in plain paper inner sleeve. No insert.

A presumed first pressing with A//1 and B//1 matrix numbers.

'Scouse the Mouse' was released in the UK in 1977 and features the vocals of Ringo Starr and others. Starr appears as the album's main character, Scouse the Mouse, who emigrates from Liverpool to the United States. Other characters are played by Adam Faith (“Bonce the Mouse”) and Barbara Dickson (“Molly Jolly”). The album was written and directed by Donald Pleasence. Most of the songs performed on the album were composed by Roger Brown.

Starr's tracks ("I Know a Place", "S.O.S.", "A Mouse Like Me", "Living in a Pet Shop", "Scouse's Dream", "Running Free", "Boat Ride" and "Scouse the Mouse") were recorded in July 1977, produced by Hugh Murphy, at Berwick Street Studios. An animated television version of the story was planned for airing on ITV, but it was delayed due to a strike and ultimately shelved. 'Scouse the Mouse' was released on 9 December 1977 in the UK by Polydor. The album, which was the third and final release in Starr’s three-album deal with Polydor Records, was not issued in the United States.

CONDITION

COVER - in about VG to VG+ condition with slight 'storage' outer rim record-shaped impression, some minor shelfwear here and there to edges and corner areas and a previous owner has neatly written their name in blue biro on the second face in from the left on the sleeve rear. There are also two small area of wear/rubbing at the top of the spine. Please see pictures above for more details.
VINYL - overall in about VG to VG+ condition viewed under a bright halogen bulb, with some light and very light 'hairline' surface marks on each side. There are NO deep or feelable marks or scratches.

Overseas buyers (non-English speakers) - you are welcome to bid but remember that the items I am selling are USED and will sometimes NOT be mint. There is a detailed description above so please make sure you have READ AND UNDERSTOOD this before bidding. If in any doubt or if there is something you do not understand, please ask. I will be VERY unhappy if anyone bids and then says afterwards that the "vinyl is only in VG condition" or similar if it's clearly stated! So PLEASE make sure you are clear on what you are bidding on before hitting the button ... thanks!

GRADING

NEW: Just that - still sealed items will be presumed to be in 'new' condition. Any visible signs of wear/storage etc. beneath the shrinkwrap will be mentioned.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in very close to 'as new' condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in almost perfect condition. (please note that I will NEVER use the 'MINT' grade, as I think you are asking for trouble! The highest grade used for an item that is not new will be NM [Near Mint])

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played a number of times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and maybe some occasional light scratches. If there is any surface noise it will be occasional, light and unobtrusive. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has obviously been played a lot and while it still plays through OK, it will have a lot of surface marks and/or light scratches (maybe also the occasional 'feelable' scratch) and most likely there there will be regular and noticeable surface noise. The cover and contents may suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine and/or seam splits, discoloration, etc.

Sorry, NO EXCEPTIONS. Please be aware of these terms before placing your bid or using Buy It Now and understand also that I will NOT change these terms or enter into negotiations after you win an item. Thank you for your understanding.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU READ THE DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS GIVEN BELOW - although the stuff I offer is cheap, I still make a big effort to give a very detailed description, rather than just putting a simple 'G','VG' or 'EX'. Similarly, the photos provided may not always show every detail in the description (especially on the covers), so please ensure you have read and understood the whole description before placing a bid or using 'Buy It Now' ... thanks!

POSTING OVERSEAS - I must also add that recently I have had quite a lot of bids from people in countries where insurance is compulsory and the winners have then either argued about the CLEARLY stated terms or refused to pay for insurance. I don't see how I can make things any plainer, but just to reiterate, if you live anywhere EXCEPT the UK, Europe (NOT Italy, Turkey, non-EU countries or Russia), USA, Canada, Japan, Australia and New Zealand your parcel MUST be insured and sent via International Signed For - this is at EXTRA cost to the buyer and will be clearly detailed in the POSTAGE & PACKING section (please see above).

A FEW OTHER THINGS YOU MAY NEED TO KNOW

  • all items sent from the UK, WELL PACKED and within a MAXIMUM of 3 days of receiving cleared payment, but in most cases within 24 hours (excluding Sundays and Bank Holidays, of course!)
  • I am happy to combine postage for multiple purchases, wherever practical (however, if for example, you are buying a video and a vinyl LP, it may not be possible) and providing payment is made by one SINGLE payment only. If you win more than one item, please wait for my invoice before paying.
  • Items will be sent by Royal Mail 2nd Class (unless 1st class 'upgrade' is paid for) within the UK and via Royal Mail Airmail elsewhere - sorry, but surface mail is not an option.
  • If you live in a country I don't ship to and wish to buy this item, please get in touch - I may reconsider but note that the postage may not be as quoted above.

If there is anything I have missed out, or you need to know about this or any other item I have listed, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

ABOUT MY LISTINGS (PLEASE READ!)

Naturally we would all like to be able to buy a 1st pressing Beatles album in mint condition for a tenner; however, returning to the real world, this is obviously not possible (or at least, very unlikely!) The music and other items I will be offering for sale will be from my own vast collection; it will therefore be used but will be affordable and will be ideal for buyers who want a solid, playable copy (and who don't mind if the item isn't always in absolutely pristine condition) without paying a fortune. If you want stone-cold mint first pressings then you may be in the wrong place! This obviously does not apply to all items, and plenty of items will be in the EX-NM range, but the majority of what I sell will be in the G-EX range and will often be at a set Buy It Now price (no waiting 7 days only to be outbid at the last minute - if you want it, get it right away!).

Condition-wise, if any surface marks are mentioned in the description, these will be precisely that - NON-FEELABLE and on the top surface of the record or CD only. Any deeper or feelable marks will be noted and if it affects play, again it will be mentioned in the description. Basically, I will only list anything I would happily buy myself. I have a mountain of stuff to get through so may not always have time to give a full track-listing; if you want more info., feel free to ask but please try Discogs or the All Music Guide first as you will almost certainly be able to find out what you need on one of those two sites. If not, then drop me a line. Finally, all grades used (see above) are those used by "Record Collector" magazine (please take note of this if you are a US bidder as Goldmine's grades are very different to those used in RC). Thanks for reading all this, and please save me on your favourite sellers list as there will be thousands of items in the £1-£5 range listed in the coming months.
