      THE OUTLAW BLUES BAND

                  BREAKING IN

\                                                    USA - BLUESWAY - BLS 6030

Always been hard to find, but a never opened STILL SEALED  1969 first pressing is really a special score...

Second album released in 1969 on ABC/Bluesway, home of electric blues. The Outlaw Blues Band was, without a doubt, one of the most important blues groups of late ’60s / early ’70s, along with Canned Heat, and Butterfield Blues Band. An essential release:

The Outlaw Blues Band consisted of Victor Aleman (drums-percussion), Joe Francis Gonzales (bass-vocals), Phillip John (lead guitar-lead vocals), Leon Rubenhold (harmonica-vocals), Joe Whiteman (reeds-lute-vibra harp), and Lawrence Dickens (bass).

The Outlaw Blues Band decided to call themselves outlaws because of their self-proclaimed unconventional music. This is how they referred to rock music of the day-”It’s a 4/4 tempo that’s still rocking in its chair, not as a lady, but as a wench that shook up the historical path of music.”

As their name suggests, this was a blues-rock outfit but they were a pretty good one at that. From California, they were one of the several new acts signed by Bob Thiele, the producer of several interesting rock groups (Eden's Children, Free Spirits etc) on the ABC/Bluesway label in the late 60's.. Their "BREAKING IN" album features lots of fluid guitar and you should enjoy this if blues-rock is your thing. Even if it isn't you might still like it. THE OUTLAW BLUES BAND "BREAKING IN" start off with 3 covers that set a real nice, laid back, electric Blues sound with Plastic Man, Stormy Monday Blues and My Baby’s Left And Gone. The second side sounds totally different because it’s all original material that mixes up the blues, jazz and rock styles. The best tunes are the Latin tinged shuffling rhythms of Mamo Pano Shhhh with some strong work on the vibes, and the steamy and funky blues grooves in Deep Gully that’s been made famous of late by sampling agents.

1. Plastic Man 5:08
2. Stormy Monday Blues 6:42
3. My Baby's Left And Gone 4:31
4. Day Said 3:20
5. Mamo Pano Shhhh 6:14
6. You're The Only One 2:11
7. Deep Gully 5:47
