PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! Original 1970 first BRITISH pressing of the very first MATCHING MOLE album, a delightfully progressive "Canterbury" crew formulated from the ashes of CARAVAN and The SOFT MACHINE ...1971 mind you!

This record contains a nice selection of varied songs. There are Canterbury elements, but also krautrock, psychedelic, avant prog and fusion ones. What a crafty mix!
Soft Machine's drumming singer Robert Wyatt leads on the first tracks. The typical Canterburian organ, Fender Rhodes and vocals effects are often really good, like on the surprisingly complex & excellent "Part of the Dance". Wyatt's drums are very layered.
The dynamic keys on "O Caroline" are well played. This song fades into "Instant Pussy"....what a title! Three minutes of soft drums, hypnotic bass and high pitched vocal experiments reminding of GONG even if Wyatt never played with the radio gnomes apart of a first stint in the formation of GonG with Daevid Allen. "Instant Pussy" shows the extravagant side of Robert Wyatt along with his Canterburian lead vocals ala early Soft Machine. Elsewhere, the fuzzbox-organ in "Instant Kitten" could be mistaken for Frippian guitar notes. The mellotron-flute could also perfectly fit on an early Tangerine Dream "Ohr" label album. "Dedicated to Hugh, but You Weren't Listening" starts with a krautrock minimal intro; then some Zappa-esque improvisations should well delight the listener showcasing this crew making difficult music; despite the dissonant textures, it sounds coherent and surprisingly elaborated. The krautrock improvisations continue on "Beer as in Braindeer", which may slightly remind "The Waiting Room" on The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. The impressive dramatic floating mellotron on "Immediate Curtain" sounds a bit like on the Epsilon In Malaysian Pale album. All said, the album is a fine blend of psychedelic and jazz/prog creating an atmosphere that's bordering on tripping without using any substance. Best enjoyed after dark with the lights off. Indeed, the experience could be likened to journey after which spins the listeners head then slowly returns to mundane realities. Excellent work - and probably one of a kind achievement by all involved. A true gem!
