In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. The best Stones album nobody talks about...with the brisk rocker 'Silver Train' and meditative ballad 'Coming Down Again' and that's just the crest of the wave...
Following the enormous success of EXILE ON MAIN STREET, GOATS HEAD SOUP found the Rolling Stones jetting down to Jamaica in 1973 and tweaking their rebellious image with a bit of voodoo imagery. Kicking things off with "Dancing With Mr. D.," the Stones picked up the thread of "Sympathy For The Devil" and gilded their already hedonistic reputation with some Satanic allusions. References to Beezelbub aside, SOUP offered up some of the Stones' more heartfelt ballads including "Winter," "Coming Down Again," and the lilting, minor-key classic "Angie."
Of course, being known as "The World's Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Band" means a number of songs more than back up this moniker. Among them are "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)," propelled by Mick Taylor's wah-wah pedal and Billy Preston's electric piano, and the twang and slide guitar of "Silver Train." There's an abundance of cheeky attitude here despite a slew of slow songs, and the Stones close out with a nasty, backhanded tribute to groupies called "Star Star." Though GOAT'S HEAD SOUP does not hold up to the four studio masterpieces that preceded it (BEGGAR'S BANQUET, LET IT BLEED, STICKY FINGERS, and EXILE ON MAIN STREET), it is still full of strong songwriting, great playing, and plenty of classic Stonesy swagger.
Dancing with Mr. D: This intro song gives off a sleazy vibe that the Stones are famous for, with a groovin' moving bassline, honky-tonk piano and Jagger's snarling vocals. The chorus is pretty straightforward, but the layering of quirky instruments keeps the song interesting throughout.
100 Years Ago: This song starts as a melancholic ballad, with jagger singing about old times. The clavinet and piano add an old fashion feel, with an electric guitar jamming along with wah- wah effect. About halfway the song slows down to a lonelier tone, then quickly speeds up a again for a great wah wah guitar solo.
Coming Down Again: this song is very laidback, like a tame version of 100 years ago. Here the piano takes a calmer tone, same with the wah-wah laden guitars. The song is based on Jagger and some soothing backing vocals singing 'coming down again'.
Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker): The Stones keep up the R&B/Soul/Funk feel here, but it's also a great rocker.
Angie: It's a rumor that Mick wrote this song as an apology to his girlfriend/wife at the time for sleeping with David Bowie :S... whether it's about Mick fooling around with Bowie or not, it's a great ballad type song. The funkiness departs on this track, the track driven by an acoustic guitar, a piano, and some string arrangements adding to the emotion. Mick's vocals are very fitting for this song.
Silver Train: Silver Train seems to be based on a cowboy movie theme song. It's more rural sounding than previous songs here. It's a pretty straightforward song, not as much variation as the last tracks, with a harmonica and a whimsy guitar solo.
Hide Your Love: A bluesy song, one of the more 'classic rock' songs on Goats Head Soup. It's based on a catchy piano riff. Like Silver Train and Angie, this song cuts down on the groovyiness.
Winter: This is also a sad, ballad type song like Angie, but more rocking and continues the newly established blues sound of the second-half of the record. There are some really beautiful string arrangements here too. Although Angie is generally more popular, this song is more sentimental. Winter has a nice, warm sounding guitar solo, which fits the overall feel of the song perfectly.
Can You Hear the Music: this track is downright psychedelic, and funky. It sounds like Angie or Winter on acid. Jagger's vocals are over layered with strange effects; the organ and guitar are stuffed with wah-wah, reverb, and flangers. The weirdest song on Goats Head Soup, and placed at an unexpected place in the album. A good refreshing song.
Star Star: Originally titled Starfucker, which had controversial lyrics. This is probably the closest to 'classic rock' you'll get on Goats Head Soup. It starts out slow, but builds up to an energetic chorus ('Starf**ker, starf**ker, starf**ker, star') and great guitar solo. Star Star ends in an upbeat jam, a great closer to the Goats Head Soup album
Goats Head Soup is a great rock record, with various musical influences that keeps it interesting and standing out more than typical rock albums -- an essential Rolling Stones album.

CONDITION: rated: STILL FACTORY SEALED never opened, a 42+ year old first print. Has a couple of issues to back cover: (1) there is back cover left corner are indentation from record inside, small very light moisture mark at top left and spot at far right near spine (back cover only - it's light, if you look hard you can barely see - that's as it's so light) ...front cover missing a small bit of outer cellophane at top tip of right corner , a bit bumped but very light so not so noticeable ... both the "ANGIE" hit song sticker on front and song titles sticker on back. VERY seldom found is a sealed '74 first print - never opened! Original store price sticker at top left = guaranteed 1974 original press!
