Featured on The Bessie Smith Story Volume One are Iconic performances by Bessie Smith and Louis Armstrong inventing and thus defining the history of jazz.

Bessie Smith may be the greatest female blues vocalist of all time. Louis Armstrong plays phenomenal cornet on 9 of the tracks included on this absolutely essential LP. This record album was put together by Columbia Records out of love and respect for the jazz idiom. This record album sounds fantastic as the highest quality of vinyl was utilized in order to maximize the effectiveness of these timeless performances.
