Let It Be
Sealed British Import
PCS 7096
This is an Factory Sealed EMI Parlophone UK Import LP with No Bar Code SIMILAR to the one pictured above. Some corners are slightly dented, there is a two inch split in the bottom seam, and there is a warp at the bottom of the cover that extends across the right half of the cover but does not appear to affect the vinyl. If you win the record and want us to check it for warps before sending, we are happy to crack it open and inspect it. If it is not perfect we will refund your payment immediately. Copies of this vintage pressing can sound absolutely OUT OF THIS WORLD. We were tempted to crack this one open and check the stampers, but we thought we would leave the fun part to you, our loyal customers!
The Brits Are King
The British copies seem to be the only way to go for this album. We played a few German copies which were a mixed bag -- some tracks would sound amazing but others would sound funny. Some Capitol pressings are surprisingly good, but they'll never have all the magic of the master tape. The Brits are the only ones we've heard that manage to get everything right.
The MoFi -- Not Bashed
By the way, I used to not like the MoFi, but all things considered, it's actually pretty good, assuming your copy sounds like mine (an assumption we really can't make but oh well). I give it a good solid "B". It can't hold a candle to the real thing, but at least they didn't ruin it like they did with a number of other Beatles albums. For more on that subject, please read the commentary for the Hot Stamper pressings on the site. AMG Review
There are few other rock records as controversial as Let It Be... which was not their final album, but largely recorded in early 1969, way before Abbey Road. Although Phil Spector's use of strings has generated much criticism, by and large he left the original performances to stand as is: only "The Long and Winding Road" and (to a lesser degree) "Across the Universe" and "I Me Mine" get the Wall of Sound treatment... the album is on the whole underrated, even discounting the fact that a substandard Beatles record is better than almost any other group's best work. McCartney in particular offers several gems: the gospel-ish "Let It Be," which has some of his best lyrics; "Get Back," one of his hardest rockers; and the melodic "The Long and Winding Road."
