Description

Elvis Presley – “Elvis (Original Soundtrack Recording From His NBC-TV Special)”
Label: RCA Victor – LPM-4088
Format: Vinyl, LP, Album, Mono
Country: USA
Released: 1968-1977
Genre: Rock, Blues, Stage & Screen
Style: Rock & Roll, Soundtrack, Television Special 💿 DESCRIPTION This LP documents the historic 1968 NBC-TV “Comeback Special” that reignited Elvis Presley’s career after nearly a decade devoted to Hollywood soundtracks. Combining intimate live performances and re-recorded studio segments — including “Trouble,” “Lawdy Miss Clawdy,” “Jailhouse Rock,” and the legendary “If I Can Dream” — the album captures Elvis at his creative and emotional peak.
The mono edition (LPM-4088) was issued in late November 1968 and pressed only through early 1969, marking one of the very last U.S. mono LPs before RCA permanently shifted to stereo. The bold front design — Elvis in a white suit framed by red-bulb “ELVIS” marquee lights — became one of the most iconic covers in his entire catalog. 💎 CONDITION VINYL: Presumed MINT (unplayed) COVER: Factory-sealed, never opened (shrink has small tear on front side) 🧾 NOTES FOR COLLECTORS

  • Label: Early mono copies — orange RCA Victor labels (one of the first Elvis titles to use this design)

  • Pressing plants: Indianapolis (“I”), Hollywood (“H”), Rockaway (“R”); lacquer codes typically 1S – 3S

  • Front cover: RCA / LPM-4088 printed upper-left

  • Back cover: Red layout with five Elvis performance photos and credit block; “ELVIS TV SPECIAL LPM-4088” top right

  • Producers / Crew: Bob Finkel – Exec Prod | Steve Binder – Dir/Prod | Bones Howe – Music Supervision | William Goldenberg – Arrangements | W. Earl Brown – Lyrics | Gene McAvoy – Art Direction

  • Collector note: While the cover design remained unchanged through 1977, the true mono LPM-4088 is identifiable by its catalog number and label format — later reissues (LSP and AFL1) are stereo only and far more common. Authentic sealed mono copies are among the hardest to find in the entire Elvis catalog.
