This album captures a historic moment: Elvis Presleyโs return to perform in his hometown of Memphis on March 20, 1974, at the Mid-South Coliseum. It was his first live performance in the city since 1961. This recording is particularly famous for the powerful performance of "How Great Thou Art," which earned Elvis his third and final competitive Grammy Award.
As a First Edition (CPL1 prefix), this release is distinguished from later reissues (which often carry the AFL1 prefix). Promo copies of this specific era were often sent to radio stations and reviewers just before the official release, making them highly sought after by completionists. The presence of the original shrink wrap and the gold promo stamp significantly enhances its archival value.
-
Labels: Since the record is in shrink wrap, the labels are likely the standard RCA orange used in 1974.
-
Matrix numbers: Typical first pressings for this release often feature "Indianapolis" (I) or "Hollywood" (H) stamps in the dead wax.
