Luther Ingram established himself as a comer on the Southern soul scene with his debut album for Koko. He moved from Jackson, Tennessee to New York, but then Stax contacted him, and he eventually began recording for Koko. Booming, energetic, and unsophisticated wailing was his stock-in-trade, plus a country/blues influence.
