SEAN O RIADA our musical heritage BOX SET 3xLP 1981  Nice original triple album box set which is the first publication of an important series of programmes on Irish traditional music which Sean O Riada presented on Radio Eireann in 1962. These programmes are considered by some to be one of the most important points in the modern revival of Irish traditional music, as at the time (as Thomas Kinsella wrote) “…the Irish musical tradition was of little or no concern (indeed, an object of contempt) to the urban majority of the Irish people.” Not only did he raise national awareness of the music but he was instrumental in bringing together a number of players to produce traditional music in a manner that had never existed before, the “Ceoltóiri Chualann”. Directly out of this sprang the Chieftains and eventually the whole modern idea of traditional groups.
The set of three LP's provide a selection of, edited and introduced by Tomas O Canainn, of the performances by sean-nos singers and traditional instrumentalists chosen to illustrate the character of the Irish musical tradition
