SEMIRAMIDE – Joan Sutherland RARE Australia 1965

Here is a particularly rare live performance of Dame Joan Sutherland in her initial return to her homeland with the historic Sutherland Williamson Grand Opera Season of 1965 singing the bravura title role in Rossini’s Semiramide. She is partnered by the fabulous Monica Sinclair as Arsace, Joseph Ward as Idreno  and Spiro Malas as Azzur.   This performance from Her Majesty’s Theatre – October 5th 1965 - is conducted by Richard Bonynge. 

This single CD captures only 45 minutes of Act II and the surviving sound is not broadcast quality. This transfer comes direct from a previously unknown tape recorded by an enthusiast in the auditorium. This document contains some thrilling singing from Mms Sutherland and Sinclair as the two divas vocally battle.

This is one memorable night at the opera!
