You are bidding on a set of five 7" EPs, Volumes One through Five, of Kate Bush/Cathy Demos.

These all play at 33 1/3 rpm. Track listings are as follows:

I don't know when these particular records were made, but I was told by the person from whom I bought them that they came out sometime in the mid-80s. Here's the story of how this set came into my possession: I found them at an outdoor swap meet in Long Beach, California, around 1997. The seller said that he'd bought them from a collector in London. I had heard about these "Demos" for years and knew that they were limited to 600 copies of each volume. So, I was pretty shocked to find that the entire set was numbered 001/600! The thing is that Volumes One and Two are hand-numbered 001, but the /600 is machine-printed. However, on Volumes Three, Four and Five, all the numbering is done by hand (see photo). I'm not exactly sure of the implications of that, but I still consider this a complete set from the original 600 (if, indeed, only 600 were made).

There's apparently a long history to these 7"s which you can check out on the 'net if you're not already familiar with it: http://gaffa.org/phoenix/. When these first came out, they were released to the public one volume at a time over a certain period. The sound quality of the vinyl is supposed to be great. The issue of the song titles is also an interesting one (and it should be noted that this is the set that first brought out the track "Organic Acid"; it had been previously unknown).

As noted above, each EP is on a different color vinyl. If you look closely, the run-out grooves of the records contain those strange messages written about on the Internet (e.g. "She smokes the blackest hash"). The records seemed unplayed when I got them, and I've only played them a couple of times each. They're all inside of plain white paper sleeves which are then inside of black and white cardboard sleeves. Each record has a different photo of Kate (as a young girl, I guess) on the cover. These are all in excellent condition inside and out.

My guess is that these are pretty rare as a set. I know the material is available all over the place in many formats, but this five volume set is kind of the original thing that got all those other collections going.
