One of the earliest possible pressings of probably rock's most seismic record:
SEX PISTOLS: Anarchy In The UK/I Wanna Be Me (1976 UK EMI 2566) PRE-RELEASE DEMO VERSION.
While copies of this have occasionally surfaced before on eBay this one comes with a nice bit of notified punk history. This comes from the collection of Danny Baker, one of the writers of Sniffin' Glue fanzine - THE original UK punk 'zine. I have recently taken over this collection and here's the story behind this particular copy of the world changing 45.
Early on the Pistols had a temporary office space in the same semi-derelict building as Sniffin Glue - Dryden Chambers off London's Oxford Street (almost opposite the 100 Club). One morning Steve Jones passes Baker on the stairs and says, "Our record's out. Well not out - but we got some." He then runs back up a flight and emerges again with three copies and hands them across - apparently with a muttered threat about giving it a good review!
This is one of those copies. Not much of a legend possibly but a neat provenance nonetheless - and this amazing historic record will come with a letter signed by Danny Baker stating this.
The thirty-two year old vinyl is in truly excellent condition - no scratches, scuffs or digs. The labels are perfectly clean and clear. There is no missing the bold industrial stamp: DEMO RECORD NOT FOR RESALE.
By the way, I asked - these copies did NOT come in black bags. This generic EMI company bag is it's only bag - just the way it was when handed over in 1976... right before everything exploded for everyone.
