Description

In the past couple of weeks, over a couple of fun trips, I've bought a huge vinyl collection from a friend who worked with me at Phantom Records (in the '90's) and who'd amassed a gigantic collection of wonderfully kept and thoroughly researched LP's, 7"s and relevant 12"s - from the classic punk era (1976-1981) was his specialty, but also records from the few years after that era, as some of those bands progressed into the mid-'80's while keeping their integrity intact (the likes of Public Image, Siouxsie, the Cure spring to mind). To give you an example of his fastidiousness, his collection includes 60 different editions of the Pistols "Never Mind The Bollocks" LP - from every conceivable country, and every edition he could uncover. Anyway, he's been particular about maintaining items in their original condition - most he bought brand new at the time...(however this may mean that some he picked up second-hand weren't exactly mint to start with - those will be obvious by the gradings below). He'd been buying records I believe from about 1975/76 right up until recently. It's a truly wonderful collection; he'd not sold any of it previously so it was complete - some of the items are super rare and some are simply very nice copies of classic records - and I felt utterly privileged to be offered it first. Mostly though, YOU get to benefit from his meticulousness.

Here then, is one of the items from his collection:

ARTIST:     SEX PISTOLS -
TITLES:        "GOD SAVE THE QUEEN" / "DO YOU NO WRONG" (note mis-titled 'B' side) .
FORMAT:   …vinyl 7" single…
LABEL:       VIRGIN (distributed by RTC - 'Record & Tape Co. Of NZ Ltd') .
CATALOGUE #:  VS-181  .
DATE OF RELEASE:  1977 .
PRESSED IN:    NEW ZEALAND .

ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING:   Yes, it is!...blue-fading-to-white labels...mis-titled 'B' label...thin paper pic sleeve... .

What's so great about this copy, is the condition of the sleeve. Because it's made of thin paper, it nearly always is found in less than good condition...usually with seam splits, bad ringwear and creases...but NOT this one...has NO seam splits, virtually no crinkling (see pic - no creases), and only the very beginnings of ringwear (noticeable on the back). It's easily the best NZ "GSTQ" pic sleeve I've ever seen.

It does have a record store label on the back: 'Lewis Eady' in Auckland was one of those classic music stores left over from the 50's and 60's (it started in 1884!) which sold music instruments mostly but branched into records in the late 50's, and was at the premises listed on the sticker from 1928 till 1980.

CONDITION:

COVER: (EX-)...

VINYL: ( VG+[+] )...has a few tiny and light hairline marks, that it's not graded higher...I played both sides and while it has a few crackles before the music starts, there's none apparent during play!!...i.e. it plays so near mint...there's a small section of 'clouding' on the vinyl on Side Two, but it makes NO difference to play whatsoever...

LABELS: (Side One: MINT / Side Two: MINT )...the labels are pristine with just a couple of visible spindle marks on Side Two (none on Side One)...

If you have any concerns about the accuracy of my gradings, please check my feedback for the odd nice comment from some satisfied folk out there.... (and hopefully you may be able to join their ranks).

Thanks for considering this item...Cheers, Jules.
