SEX PISTOLS - The Biggest Blow 12" Rare "INTERVIEW" Mispress 1978.
The first single to appear from McLaren's master scam The Great Rock n Roll Swindle bearing the Sex Pistols name, Malcolm's idea to use a former great train robber as the Sex Pistols new front man was never going to fool anyone, Biggs was in exile in Brazil so was never going to be anything other than a guest vocalist at best, the idea was a non starter and ended as quickly as it began.
Issued as a double A sided single McLaren insisted that the other track was My Way, Sid Vicious sticking his biker boots in the teeth of the Sinatra standard, starting off slow in a mockery of the original before ending with the signature Sid Vicious Sneer and a two fingered salute.
McLaren was keen to promote the hell outta Vicious as he held a secret wish that it could've been him up there doing it but knew he just didn't have the bottle so lived out his fantasy through the film a much safer option than trying to out punk Sid.
The single did well and was issued as NO ONE IS INNOCENT - McLaren pushed for the 12" to be called - COSH THE DRIVER, to give the record some added shock value but in the end Virgin bottled it and chose The Biggest Blow for the 12", McLaren however eventually got his way when the record was issued in France on his dodgy Matrixbest label.
Back to this 12" release unbeknown to some fans a small number of the 12"s were mispressed with a six minute Interview filmed by Julien Temple for the swindle, the audio from that drunken night was added after the biggest blow track.
This version of the 12" quickly disappeared as fans hunted down all available copies for their collections, in fact during the 80's when selling this version in music mags it became known as the NEVER MIND THE SWEARING Version, anyone who has heard the interview will understand why, let's just say it's a very drunk Ronnie Biggs Trying to interview an even drunker Paul Cook and a well and truly plastered Steve Jones - this is my favourite bit,
BIGGS - "I've read all about your performances and I'm totally disgusted"
JONES - "You f**kin liar"
COOK - "We've read all about you too"
BIGGS - "And I'm f**kin disgusting also l know"
JONES - "What about the train driver" !
Manic laughter and obscenities continue.......this is the Sex Pistols after all.
A great 12" to own is this, now quite hard to find so get your bids in early and don't forget to check out my other punk and Sex Pistols listings for more great items.
Starting this off at what most people are selling the standard version for so be sure to add the interview version to your collection - good condition is this one, check out the photos.
