This is more than just a recording of the Sex Pistols last concert, played at Winterland in NY on 01/14/78 (with Sid, but not Glenn). This is a document of the downfall of the true punk attitude, and the music that sadly slowly began to morph into a more acceptable sound and attitude (sorry Clash, "London Calling" is EXACTLY what I mean, though it's a brilliant album). Punk went more underground from here, and post punk was born (Wire's debut "Pink Flag" released just 2 months before this, Gang Of Four's "Entertainment was just around the corner). Rotten was over the shenanigans and the circus hoopla by '78, over Sid's heroin habit, over Malcolm, and ready for PiL by the end of '78. But the Pistols went out with a bang on this awesome recording, with the band playing fast and hard, Johnny casually berating the audience (check out the famous final words during their performance of The Stooges "No Fun"), sarcasm dripping throughout his performance of "EMI". Great show. Yes, the sound here is not perfect, you can hear the crowd and every mistake the band makes, but it is punk rock through and through. This scarce copy of "Gun Control" is on the Long Island legendary record company Slipped Disc, and they did a great DIY job, the cover a Zerox'd flyer scotch taped to a generic white blank LP sleeve, and the LP is clean and shiny, with some shiny look to it that makes it look like a failed holographic (remember Styx "Paradise Theatre"?). There are a couple of obvious pops between song one and two, and at the end of Side One, Side Two has a skip in the first song "Liar" and some minor crackle at the end of the LP, but otherwise sounds really good. We don't usually sell anything that skips, but this LP is pretty hard to come by in any form, and its just a great fun snide album full of great guitars and rotten vocals. This has been cleaned with an enzyme cleaner and finished with a SpinClean machine. PLEASE, see all photos before bidding, and thanks for looking in our store!
