This is the rarest of all Deep Purple albums and is the one that every serious Deep Purple collector wants for their collection. It is difficult enough to find a stereo 1st pressing of LP but almost impossible to find this mega rare MONO version. Hardly any mono pressings were made of this LP because most people in the UK had already switched to stereo and demand for mono was in decline.
Cover: Laminated front (unlaminated rear) 1st pressing Garrod & Lofthouse 'patents pending' non gatefold cover with triple flip-backs and PMC 7055 catalogue number in top right corner of rear cover. No seam splits. The only writing is a name on the rear cover and an asterix next to the track called HELP - see photo. The spine is clear and readable. There is light laminate creasing to the front. Rates as Near Excellent for its age. Inner sleeve: Original 'patents applied for' EMI inner sleeve with ads for other Parlophone/EMI records. No seam splits, writings or doodles. There is some wear along top edge where the record is inserted - see photo. Vinyl: Play tested. Played a lot over the years. There is crackle - particularly at the beginning of each side and between tracks. This LP is a real rocker - therefore any crackle during the songs is mostly unobtrusive. There is a lot of feathering and some hairlines and side 2 track 4 has a small zig zag scratch. The record plays without skips and jumps but has some pops. These thick 1st pressing Parlophone UK vinyl LPs were exceptonally well made and, as a result, the mono sound remains great to my ear - later vinyl pressings would not have stood the test of time like this one has. Rates as Good+. Might improve with a professional clean but please do not expect top audio. Gradings.......
Mint - The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality.
Excellent - The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality.
Very Good - The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratches.
Good - The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and more significant scratches.
Fair - The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise, it may even jump.
Poor - The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc
Bad - The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
