The Shadows Of Knight were a raw Chicago punk blues powerhouse, the closest America ever came to its own version of the early Rolling Stones. Super K Productions were the folks who created the 1910 Fruitgum Company, the Ohio Express, the Rock And Roll Dubble Bubble Trading Card Company Of Philadelphia 1941, and of course, Captain Groovy And His Bubblegum Army. Yeah, weird, ain't it?
The Shadows Of Knight came to Super K Productions in 1969, four years after their classic hit version of Van Morrison's "Gloria," and were the only band Super K, a militantly singles-based company, ever recorded a full album with. The result is rawer than anything else in the Super K catalogue but considerably poppier than the Shadows' previous albums. Surprisingly, it doesn't sound bad at all. Think of it as bubble-grunge.
