THE KENTUCKY SERENADERS - properly known as LANIN'S SOUTHERN SERENADERS - dish out some classic 1921 jazz on "SHAKE IT AND BREAK IT" and "AUNT HAGAR'S CHILDREN BLUES."
This one was highly influential. It was one the first unmistakable "Hot" records, with the tight ensemble style later associated with The Original Memphis Five and other "Five" type groups. It was widely issued on a galaxy of labels.
The personnel is VERY intriguing: PHIL NAPOLEON (trumpet) / MOE GAPPELL (trombone) / "DOC" BEHRENDSON (clarinet) / LORING McMURRAY (alto sax) / JACK ROTH (drums) and JIMMY DURANTE (piano) - yes, THAT Jimmy Durante, years before he took up comedy and became the beloved "Schnozzola." SAM LANIN himself contributes the vocal breaks on "Shake It."
This original 1921 Regal 9134 is in nominal V++ condition. The outer edge of the record is discolored or stained; have no fear. Its effect on the music is minimal.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
