The Shanes are considered one of the four major pop-bands in Sweden in the 1960's, along with Tages, the Hep Stars and Ola & Janglers.
The Shanes came from the northern town of Kiruna. The original members were Staffan Berggren (guitar/vocals), Tommy Wåhlberg (guitar/vocals), Svante Elfgren (bass) and Tor-Erik Rautio (drums). In 1965 they were joined by Lennart Grahn (guitar/vocals) and in 1966 Staffan Berggren was replaced by Kit Sundqvist (keyboards/vocals). The band got their name from the movie "Shane" featuring Alan Ladd.
