Description

This is a genuine BPI music industry Gold Award for UK sales of the single “9 To 5”.  It was issued in 1981 to the artist management company owned by Sheena’s manager, Deke Arlon.  This framed & glazed award is in a gold aluminium frame measuring 26x36cms.  Within the frame is one of the original metal mother discs used to press the single (matrix # 5066 A-2U).
Overall the award is in good condition.  There are some scratches on the frame, and some of the text on the plaque has worn away (a not unknown issue with BPI awards made at this time).  But overall the award looks great when it’s on display, especially considering it’s over 40 years old.
BPI (British Phonographic Industry) awards are the British equivalent of American RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) awards, but are usually far rarer.  This award is from an era when it was typical that less than a dozen BPI awards were issued, usually to the artist(s), producer(s), record label, management, and sometimes a few others closely involved with a record’s success.  This is an official music industry award, and should not be confused with any kind of replica or ‘limited edition’ that is sold direct to the public.
A super rare piece of 1980s pop memorabilia.
I’m having a bit of a clear-out of awards that I’ve had stored away for years (see my About page). So please check my ‘other items’ for more rare awards from the music industry including BPI & RIAA awards. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
