A soft reset on reggae singer-songwriter Bim Sherman's catalogue begins with Ghetto Dub, his 1988 opus. Born in Westmoreland, Jamaica and later working from London, Sherman parted the crowd of roots reggae before a migration into dub. This one, released in 1988 in small numbers, hears local standards stripped bare and curved around negative space, shaped by the UK dub habitat he dwelt in alongside Adrian Sherwood and the On-U Sound axis. Drums lurch, basses lour, vocals apparate and vanish. A deep listen and sure DJs' favourite, especially for those wanting transcensions of the sound: 'Station Dub' is decidedly futuristic for its out-there sirens, and 'Magnet Dub' for its awkward timings and springy SFX, sounding like a shatter-resistant ruler flicked off the side of a school desk.
