Shogun Assassin - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Baby-Cart Productions ? CR 4148  1980

Original 1980 pressing, not the recent (bootleg) reissue!

This classic soundtrack lp of dark, menacing, minimal early '80's moog/synth awesomeness was, surprisingly, a collaboration of Mark Lindsay (of Paul Revere and the Raiders - huh?), Robert Houston (the film's producer), and W. Michael Lewis (of A.V.I. Records disco production team Rinder & Lewis - don't worry there is nothing even remotely disco-ey on this lp!). Shogun Assassin was a low-budget repackaging for the US market of two films from Toho's Lone Wolf and Cub series, in which exiled Samurai protagonist Itto Ogami roams the Japanese countryside, wheeling his infant son Daigoro in a baby cart, slicing up all bad guys who challenge him (occasionally the baby helps out!). Shogun Assassin basically takes the best parts from each original film (Ogami slicing up his adversaries in various ways- horizontal, vertical, various limbs, decapitations, etc… bright-red blood squirting all over the place), dubs it in English, and pulls the story together via a past-tense narration by Daigoro as a little boy. The film was distributed by Roger Corman's New World Pictures to the grindhouse movie circuit in the US. Parts of Shogun Assassin are sampled on GZA's classic album "Liquid Swords" (produced by RZA).

My fave track, "The Ninja", resembles the "Imperial March" theme from The Empire Strikes Back as if performed by Wendy Carlos for the A Clockwork Orange soundtrack!

USA: $4 for 1 or 2 lps, +$0.75 for each additional

International: Shipping cost will be actual, based on your location. Please wait for an invoice from me before submitting payment. Feel free to message me for a shipping rate for your country- I will get back to you promptly.

Packaging:

I use a rectangular mailer that prevents damage to the corners of the lp cover. Most sellers do not! Record/sleeve will be placed outside of cover (except for sealed lps) to avoid the possibility of splitting. Basically I will package the lp the same way I would want it packaged if I were the buyer!

Grading:

Per Goldmine standards. I will not use the vague "EX" grade. I will use "M" if something actually appears perfect (it does happen, though rarely). I grade under a bright bulb while wearing +3.5x reading glasses, so I see everything. In my opinion, "Sealed" can be a record grade, but is NOT a legitimate cover grade. Cover defects will be noted, even if sealed.

THANKS FOR LOOKING!
