Of all the mid-'80's Cleveland metal bands, Shok Paris achieved the most national notoriety. After their 1984 Go For the Throat LP (Auburn Records), the band was picked up by the LA-based IRS Records and proceeded to release two LPs. The first, Steel and Starlight ('87), took the band on tour with LA's Lizzie Borden. The second, Concrete Killers ('89), received play on MTV's "Headbanger's Ball," and led to a simulcast concert on Z-Rock, a nationally-syndicated radio station. But Shok Paris encountered numerous record label problems: the label wanted to slicken up the band's image and sound, as well as launch a ridiculous ad campaign that played on the band's name ("Shok Paris Hates French People!"). After getting dropped by IRS, the band broke up.
