Description

IN THE EARLY THIRTIES, record companies across the USA were desperate. The Great Depression was on. Sales were plummeting, and companies were in a panic, looking in all directions for ANY gimmick that might help to sell a record.  One gimmick they seized upon was the Long-Playing record.  EVERY firm tried it for a while in 1932 - Victor, Columbia, Crown, Brunswick, Hit-Of-The-Week, and in the present case, PERFECT.  Victor pioneered the 33-1/3 RPM record; the other firms tried finer-grooved records which played for five minutes or more.

Here, then, on a "Long Playing" Perfect record from 1932, is the doughty MAJESTIC DANCE ORCHESTRA, doing a five-minute "Show Boat" Medley, and another five-minute version of "Old-Time" Waltzes.  Funny thing about those old-time waltzes - NONE of these tunes was originally in 3/4 time!

This original 1932 "Long Play" Perfect 15562 is in V+ condition.  A trifle worn and beat up, but still plays with a lot of the old Moxie.

*****

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.”  I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
