53 year old 1965 BEATLES FIRST PRINT ORIGINAL on the sought after RAINBOW CAPITOL label! = MONO SONG MIXES are different song mixes from the stereo issue, listen closely, hear the differences! Plus the MONO edition contains BOLD and punchy production a solid wall of BEATLES recorded as the band intended. MONO pressings such as this were not produced past 1967 and therefore "limited." Finding a mono copy like this is not easy when still in cellophane and minty clean all over.

"Rubber Soul" was a turning point in the Beatles progressions, and on into psychedelia that followed...
The lyrics represented a quantum leap in terms of thoughtfulness, maturity, and complex ambiguities. Musically, too, it was a substantial leap forward, with intricate folk-rock arrangements that reflected the increasing influence of Dylan and the Byrds. The group and George Martin were also beginning to expand the conventional instrumental parameters of the rock group, using a sitar on "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)," Greek-like guitar lines on "Michelle" and "Girl," fuzz bass on "Think for Yourself," and a piano made to sound like a harpsichord on the instrumental break of "In My Life." While John and Paul were beginning to carve separate songwriting identities at this point, the album is full of great tunes, from "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)" and "Michelle" to "Girl," "You Won't See Me," "I'm Looking Through You," (a classic raver!) and "In My Life" (voted by the public as the best Beatles song - ever!). George Harrison was also developing into a fine songwriter with his two contributions, "Think for Yourself." By the way, the mentioned above "I'm Looking Through You" features varied elements, and is peppered with nasty fuzz bass, exotic sitar, cartoonishly sped-up piano that sounds like harpsichord.
All in all, the album reveals a creative scope and willingness to experiment so revolutionary it can now only be termed "Beatlesque."
Characteristically, they achieved a new musical sophistication and a greater thematic depth without sacrificing any of their pop appeal status...Though some might argue that the Beatles' unprecedented evolution from British Invasion pin-ups to pop music visionaries began with BEATLES FOR SALE, RUBBER SOUL is without a doubt the first album to definitively put the Fab Four in the running for Greatest Band Ever.
