PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Original 1965 first pressing of the first SHONDELLS album, sparks flying with catchy crafted songs centered on the stylistic & mood-moving vocal performance of then unknown Tommy James!
In 1964 a local DJ asked Tommy James and his group "The Tornadoes", to sign with his new regional label, "Snap Records". Among the four sides they recorded was an obscure song called "HANKY PANKY". The group changed their name to "The Shondells" and released it as a single. It was an instant local hit but didn't break nationally and was soon forgotten.
Amazingly, two years later in 1966, the record was found in a record bin by a Pittsburgh nightclub DJ who played it at his weekend dances. The response was so overwhelming that the local radio stations started spinning it and an enterprising record distributor bootlegged it, selling 80000 copies in ten days. By May of 1966, HANKY PANKY was the number one record in Pittsburgh and Tommy James was a sensation. Tommy was quickly tracked down and asked to come to Pittsburgh. Unable to put the original group back together, he went alone and found new members for the band to be The Shondells. Two weeks later the new group signed a record deal with Roulette Records in New York and HANKY PANKY became the biggest hit of the summer of '66. Tommy and the Shondells got together enough material to record this full album ...it's characterized by a raw unpolished flavor similar to what local garage bands were releasing in their areas (i.e. the private pressings now going for mega bucks)
