SIDNEY BECHET, 6 scarce & rare LPs on BLUE NOTE   Description Here's a valuable handful of Blue Note recordings by legendary clarinet and sax genius SIDNEY BECHET. Obviously we could sell these singly, but the group of them is a real find; all come from the same collection that was owned by a jazz afficianado in Indianapolis who was a DJ in the 1960s. They've been together a long time and you have a chance to get them that way.

First is Blue Note #1203, entitled GIANT OF JAZZ SIDNEY BECHET, VOLUME 1. It has the 63rd Street address and the deep groove. The vinyl is an attractive VG+ with modest wear; the cover has little wear on its surfaces so the cover photo is sharp; there are seam repairs top and bottom, neatly done long ago with masking tape. The recordings were made in 1945, 49 and 50; the album was released in 1958. Songs are: Darktown Strutters' Ball, Save It Pretty Mama, Shine, St. James Infirmary, Way Down Yonder in New Orleans, Memphis Blues, Fidgety Feet, Sister Kate, Copenhagen, Nobody Knows You..., China Boy, and Shim-Me-Sha Wabble.

Second is Blue Note #1204, entitled GIANT OF JAZZ SIDNEY BECHET, VOLUME 2. It's a newer pressing than Volume 1, with "Division of Liberty Records" on the label and no deep groove. The vinyl is strong VG+ with a few light surface marks. The jacket, mostly still covered with shrink wrap, is very clean and all seams are fine. Songs are: Jazz Band Ball, Tin Roof Blues, Cake Walking Babies, Basin St. Blues, I've Found A New Baby, Tiger Rag, When the Saints Go Marching In, None of My Jelly Roll, Tailgate Ramble, Runnin' Wild, Joshua Fit De Battle ob Jericho, and Mandy.

Third is Blue Note #1201, entitled JAZZ CLASSICS SIDNEY BECHET, VOLUME 1. This is an early 60s pressing with the "New York USA" label, no deep groove. The vinyl is VG+, in nice shape overall with minor surface wear. The jacket is attractive but has a repaired seam done long ago with masking tape. Songs were recorded from 1939 to 1951, mostly in the mid-1940s. Songs are: Muskrat Ramble, Blue Horizon, Weary Blues, Summertime, Blame It On The Blues, Milenberg Joys, Days Beyond Recall, Salty Dog, Dear Old Southland and Weary Way Blues.

Fourth is Blue Note #1202, entitled JAZZ CLASSICS SIDNEY BECHET, VOLUME 2. It has the "Lexington Avenue" address and a deep groove. The vinyl is strong VG+ with light wear. The jacket is attractive but has a repaired seam done long ago with masking tape. Songs were recorded from 1939 to 1951, mostly in the mid-1940s. Songs are: St. Louis Blues, Up in Sidney's Flat, Lord Let Me In the Lifeboat, Pounding Heart Blues, Changes Made, High Sojciety, Jackass Blues, Jazz Me Blues, Blues for Tommy Ladnier, and Old Stack O'Lee Blues.

Fifth is Blue Note #1207, entitled THE FABULOUS SIDNEY BECHET. This is an early 60s pressing with the "New York USA" address on the label and no deep groove. The vinyl is strong VG+ or better, the cover remains in shrink wrap and looks close to new. The album was recorded in 1953. Songs are: Original Dixieland One-Step, Blues My Naughty Sweetie Gives To Me, That's A Plenty, Ballin' The Jack, Avalon, Rose of Rio Grande, Black and Blue, Sweet Georgia Brown, All of Me, and Ding Dong Daddy.

Sixth and last -- and rarest of all, in the first photo -- is Blue Note #LP-7009, entitled SIDNEY BECHET AND HIS BLUE NOTE JAZZ MEN. This is a 1951 release, a 10-inch LP. This copy is extremely nice, with only one or two light surface marks. It's at least VG++ if not slightly better, close to new. The jacket, too, is very attractive, with almost no wear at all; it probably has spent its life in a plastic sleeve. It has the Lexington Avenue address and deep groove. Songs are: Cake Walking Blues, Tin Roof Blues, At the Jazz Band Ball, When the Saints Go Marching In, Basin Street Blues, Tiger Rag, Riverboat Shuffle, Temptation Rag.

Packed for shipment, this will weigh 4.9 pounds. We have calculated shipment within the USA by Media Mail at $4.25. However, if you wish Priority Mail (which might be wise for these items) or Parcel Post or an international rate, or postal insurance (which also might be wise), that's fine. Just let us know after the auction and we'll calculate any rate that may serve you best.
