RARE CHICAGO BLUES LP: MOJO BUFORD on VERNON/Ray Charles

This album is entitled Ray Charles On Stage at the Palladium, but 8 of the 10 tracks are by Mo Jo and the Mo Jo Chi Fours – Mojo Buford and band (including Jo Jo Williams and S.P. Leary), recorded in Minneapolis in 1963, shortly after Mojo had left the Muddy Waters band in Chicago. The only credit to Mo Jo on the record jacket is in the last paragraph of the liner notes by Enos Markham, Jr. The two Ray Charles songs are not “on stage,” but are 1950-51 sides from Down Beat/Swing Time.  This release is on the black Vernon label with silver print, with Ray Charles and Mo Jo credited on the label. Record VG to VG+, light scuffs. Jacket VG+ to NM- .

LPs and 45s are graded M (mint), NM (near mint), VG+, VG (very good), VG-, G+, G (good), G-, F (fair), and P (poor). A VG+ record may have some visible scuffs and light scratches and plays well with little surface noise. Scratches on records graded VG, VG-, and below are deep enough to feel with your fingernail, or there may be scratches throughout that cause surface noise. On records in the G+, G and G- range the level of the music is still above the surface noise caused by scuffs and scratches. Surface noise is as loud as the music on records graded F and louder than the music on P records.

Jackets graded VG+ have only slight wear; jackets graded VG are more worn but still intact unless defects are noted. G jackets show definite damage and F and P jackets are probably falling apart. Splits, markings, cut corners, and other defects will be noted.
