Description
This is an original U.S. pressing copy of the rare debut LP by groundbreaking NYC electronics duo Silver Apples, released in 1968. Taking their name from a line from a W.B. Yeats poem, Silver Apples was comprised of Simeon, who played a homemade synthesizer that he named after himself, and drummer Dan Taylor. Their music is unique even by late '60s standards: rock based, but with a prominent experimental edge that only the Bay Area group Fifty Foot Hose approached (within the context of rock music, at least). The duo would be sued out of existence by Pan American Airlines because of the cover art on their second LP, then would get back together three decades later when Taylor reconnected with Simeon through a call-in to a radio station. You can't make this stuff up. The jacket is well worn. Its main flaws are as follows: the top seam is totally split; the top flap of the jacket's back cover is torn in two places (see photos); and the spine is half split. Its other flaws: it has a cutout hole; the silver foil cover slick is torn in the two bottom corners (see photo of the more significant of the two); and it has ring wear and scuffing, wear on the bottom seam, and a small mark in black marker on the front cover. Overall condition G. The disc, by contrast, is in fine condition: visually it is clean with a little light scuffing, and it plays with some light surface noise -- EX(+). The record comes with a folded color insert, which has cutout holes at its edges, but is otherwise close to M- with some light staining.
I’m in the process of selling off a large personal collection amassed over two decades. All discs have been stored in plastic lined inner sleeves separate from their jackets. The jackets have been stored in plastic sleeves. I have play graded (spot checked) discs except where otherwise noted.
