Description

This is an original mono U.S. pressing copy of the debut LP by the Sir Douglas Quintet, released in 1966.  From San Antonio, Texas, the multiracial group led by charismatic lead singer and chief songwriter Doug Sahm hit paydirt with the 1965 single "She's About a Mover," which was a hit domestically and saw broad release overseas.  Their debut's title is a misnomer, since the group had only been together for a couple of years and had just the one national hit, but half its tracks were culled from 1965-66 singles on the Tribe label.  The LP is rounded out by four more Sahm compositions and covers of G.L. Crockett's 1965 R&B hit "It's a Man Down There" and Jimmie Rodgers' "In the Jailhouse Now."  The jacket is in fine condition overall, but does have some problem spots.  Most significantly, it has some tearing in the cover slick in one bottom corner and along the nearby bottom seam on the front and back covers (see photos).  It also has writing in red pen over a small tear on the front cover (see photo), tearing and wear on the top seam, staining on the back cover (see photo), and light ring wear.  Overall, then, VG(+).  The disc is clean with some light dinging, scraping, and scuffing, and plays with some light surface noise -- EX(-).  A former owner wrote their initials on both disc labels (see photos) and inside the jacket.

I’m in the process of selling off a large personal collection amassed over two decades. All discs have been stored in plastic lined inner sleeves separate from their jackets. The jackets have been stored in plastic sleeves. I have play graded (spot checked) discs except where otherwise noted.
