"'Jackals and Vipers in Envy of Man' might be Six's umpteenth record but there's no shortage of imagination, the record has been hacked together using tape loops from his many live shows, re-imagined and spliced together to form well-orchestrated instrumental mini-masterpieces. And yeah, I say instrumental because there's no emceeing at all on the record, a far cry from the man's early work and his (still) best album 'Antagonist Survival Kit'. That would, nonetheless, be the best reference point in terms of sound as Six sidesteps the Kraut-rockiness of 'Chewing on Glass & Other Miracle Cures' in favour of some good old fashioned loops and crunchy samples, bringing to mind his best work. I guess that's where the live reference comes in too, I can see these tracks working perfectly in a live environment with their huge, compressed beats, excessive Space Echo usage (always a good thing in my book) and up-front samples; there's even a Goblin sample on the second track, which makes this instantly an album to buy. With tricks honed by listening to the whole plethora of psychedelic and world music records no doubt this sounds like an obscure mixtape from some unknown country, just with the kind of beat production that can only come from the hand of a true master."
