Description

Here we have some SKA almighty! It's ROY RICHARDS with Baba Brooks and his Recording Band with "CONTACT" and "MAUREEN" on a DOCTOR BIRD 7" 45rpm single DB 1012.  It's very clean and tidy. It plays beautifully with only a very few very light marks. It has a clean label upon which nobody has writ either their own name, or the name of their sweetheart back in 1968. The "A" side of this Ms Pottinger production is an OK but non-remarkable instrumental called "Contact". There was, I think, some sort of terrible TV detective series going around, having the same name, which is why it's the "A" side, probably.
The "B" side is a thundering Ska workout with masses of honking sax and double-bass bashing. It's dedicated to "Maureen" (which is alright by me, because I've always had a soft spot for Maureens) and it bounces along in a delightfully vigorous manner.  It is definitely a "floor fliller". Using the "Record Collector" magazine standards of loveliness chart, I would conservatively rate it as a very strong VG+ or better.  It's very collectable and will enhance your collection, the fortunes of your sound-system, and make you an object of desire for everybody called Maureen, and several who aren't. Buy it, or waste the rest of you life in dreams of what-might-have-been, (and risk losing out with a Maureen).
