Description
Here we have a mega rare copy of the soundtrack lp to the classic Bruce Brown surfing film, Slippery When Wet. This is a US stereo copy on thick vinyl (World Pacific Stereo 1265). It was composed and performed by Bud Shank, and is a compilation of smooth West Coast jazz instrumentals. The movie was released in 1959, and from memory was Brown’s first surf movie (he later went on to make the epic Endless Summer). I think Slippery When Wet was the first ever surf movie to have a full length soundtrack lp. Regardless, this is one of the rarest surf soundtracks and definitely one of the most collectable!
There is a 5 inch seam split on the top from the sleeve opening; the split is very clean and only noticeable upon close inspection. Aside from this there is insignificant shelf wear, two small initials written in pen on the top cover, and slight age related browning on the back of the cover. There is no water damage, tears, stickers, sticker residue or ugly creases. Despite the seam split, I would still rate the cover as (VG-), as in my opinion its in above average condition for a 50 year old record!
Visually, I would rate the vinyl as (VG-). Its glossy and clean, but there are light marks and scuffs on each side. Based on sound quality, I would rate it as (VG). On my system there is some faint background crackle noticeable in the quieter parts, but there is no overpowering crackle or popping.
The labels are both (Ex). They are bright and clean only as couple of barely noticeable spindle marks.
I have placed the record in an anti static plastic sleeve, but it also comes with the original paper promotional sleeve in (OK) condition.
All in all, a great playing or display copy of this ridiculously hard to find lp. Can pick up from Sorrento, Vic, or I will post in a cardboard record box and padded bag anywhere in Australia for $9.00. Registered Post is available at an for an additional $2.95, and is highly recommended for a record of this rarity (I won’t be held responsible for loss or damage via regular post). Thanks for looking, good luck!
