Compromise doesn't always diminish results: such can easily be said about 'Hey Girl', the 1966 single by the Small Faces and an emblem of the mod scene. The song was written by the band's core members, East End mods Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane, and was a compromise between them and their manager, who wanted a more commercial sound. That said, even though the band still managed to claw back some of their more down-to-earth, true-to-their-cire R&B and soulful stylings, the song still reached number ten on the UK Singles Chart and was later included on their debut album on Decca.
