Description
From my own personal collection I am pleased to offer a superb example of the ultra rare studio album by SMALL FACES simply titled “SMALL FACES”, Catalogue Number IMLP 008. This is an ORIGINAL 1967 UK MONO 1st PRESSING on the LILAC IMMEDIATE RECORD LABEL, with a lovely 1st issue “Patents pending” GARROD & LOFTHOUSE LTD flipback sleeve. [The matrix numbers are IMLP 008-1L and IMLP 008-2L. The K/T tax code is embossed either side of the spindle hole on Side Two].
The sleeve is in between VG and EX condition (strictly graded) with only light wear and a few creases. The front cover is unmarked and the back cover is still nice and bright with only minimal age discoloration. The spine is square and solid with perfect text. The 3 rear flipbacks are fully intact and undamaged. This is a really tough sleeve to find in tidy condition – but this one is very presentable indeed.
The top quality Immediate record is visually in VG+ condition, although this visual grade does not do it justice. It’s a solid and inflexible pressing which retains a lovely shine on both sides. There are a few light surface marks evident under bright light, but these are only superficial and do not have any effect whatsoever on the audio playback. The lilac Immediate labels are unmarked apart from a moderate number of spindle traces near the centres. The sound quality of these original mono pressings is outstanding - very powerful and vibrant with wonderful bass tones. Both sides play EX+ throughout. There is no discernable deterioration in sound quality and barely any unwanted noise at all. Please don’t be put off by my visual grading – the record really does play almost perfectly. I think that it will be very difficult to find another copy of this standard.
The plain white inner sleeve has a few creases and a small nick to one opening edge.
Overall this is a super copy of one of Small Faces’ rarest albums which will grace any record collection.
GRADINGS
The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega P5 turntable fitted with an Elys 2 cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. My gradings are strict and in accordance with the following descriptions:
· MINT- Record is superb, almost like new, with just a few sleeve removal type surface marks and no deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve is near perfect in all respects.
· EX Record is a top quality example, with just a few very light surface marks which do not sound, and barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve has slight wear and/or creasing.
· VG Record has some visual surface marks, but still plays to a high standard without any major deterioration in sound quality – just a few clicks or light surface sound in places. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects but is still very presentable.
