SMALL FACES Same UK DECCA MONO GROOVE 1st, Beat
Small Faces, Same.
Original 1966 UK Decca Records mono LP, LK 4790.
Earliest heavy pressing with unboxed red and silver grooved label and 5A/3A matrix suffixes.
Vinyl in very solid VG plus condition, and not far from EX. Some light but not excessive spindle wear. Surfaces still have a high gloss, although display a few light and superficial hairline scuffs, one or two of which are slightly more immediately visible. These are isolated marks on otherwise very clean surfaces however, and there are no deep scratches or digs.
Playback is very clean and bright. The sound is bright and punchy with the usual early Decca clarity and there is no distortion or groove wear. The surfaces are generally impressively quiet and virtually free of crackle. On playback I noticed just a very few instances of the very lightest of crackle, and only at the silent bands between tracks. Even here it is to a minimum. I heard a maximum of three isolated and soft single ticks during entire playback, and this without making any attempt to clean the LP. All in all still provides a really enjoyable listening experience throughout, and playback grades a very strong EX.
Labels are clean and unmarked, and still have a high undulled lustre.
Inner sleeve is a replacement, but of the correct type for this issue. This has been taken from a sample pressing (a classical LP) and subsequently has some penned annotations to top corners and a sample seal to top centre of entry side.
External sleeve can only muster a G grade, although this is mainly due to a poor rear panel. Structurally the sleeve is fairly sound, with no loss or tears. Some overall handling and ringwear creasing, affecting mainly the corner areas. Front laminate is still intact but with hairline creasing and half moons and a small air pocket at top left hand corner. Some small pinch line creases leading in from spine area have taken on browning. Rear panel is heavily stained and with pen and pencil marks, although all text is still legible. Seams lightly chipped and with browning hairlines, but not heavily scuffed or split. Entry side gently worn at front, more heavly worn at rear, with two or three small closed tears. Tips are a little rubbed.

A Note On Grading:Note that audio grading is subjective and based on sensitivity of equipment used for playback. In this instance playback has been tested on a vintage Technics Quartz Direct Drive SL1700 MKII turntable with Shure cartridge, Technics SU-C 03 amp and Technics SB-F2 Linear Phase speakers.
Also note that I generally do not clean vinyl unless so noted. Most vinyl will show improved playback quality with your preferred cleaning method, but I leave this to the prospective buyer, as controversy still surrounds the ideal method of cleaning vinyl.
