PLEASE NOTE: The Snoopy song on this record is NOT the song "Snoopy Couldn't Be President" by Jerry Annan that appears on the Vinyl Vic's Rare & Obscure Answer Records - Volume 18 compilation CD and has been played on demented music shows such as "A-Log on the Airwaves"
That song was done by Jerry Annan for the 1968 presidential election.
What I am offering here is Jerry Annan's UPDATE of his own song for the 1984 presidential election, with appropriately updated candidate lyrics.
A far as I can tell, the one I am offering here doesn't show up anywhere -- and I would appreciate someone correcting me if this is not true.

You'd figure that the legion of Peanuts fans and Snoopy collectors have seen it all when it comes to "Snoopy for President" memorabilia.
Well, here's an original vintage 1984 novelty song record that appears to have flown under the radar for 35 years: Google yields not a trace. Nothing on Discogs. Popsike? Nope. I asked major Peanuts experts and nobody heard of it...but after I put up this auction some fine sleuthing by Nat Gertler provided crucial information about the singer-songwriter who created it.
And, it's got a back story that makes it the darkest Peanuts-related record anyone is ever likely to encounter...
"Snoopy Can't Be President" was written and performed by a country singer and bandleader named Jerry Annan who performed primarily in California nightclubs and occasionally at the famous Palomino Club, North Hollywood's so-called "Grand Ole Opry West."
"Jerry Eugene" was one of his stage names. He was also known as "Jerry Bobby-Bob Eugene" and later in his career made a name for himself as the "King of Karaoke."
According to a musician who played in his band for seven years before Eugene went solo, Eugene was playing at a club and had words with some guys in the audience who then left. When Eugene left the club after his gig, they apparently were waiting for him with a shotgun, killed him, and made off with his truck filled with audio equipment. The case was never solved.
This happened in November 1993, and the Los Angeles Times ran a story titled "200 ADMIRERS MOURN MURDERED SINGER - Memorial: Jerry Annan, the King of Karaoke, was shot during a robbery last weekend. 'He knew how to make people feel good,' one friend said."
The article described the scene as about mourners attended his funeral, paid tribute to his memory, and made plans "to keep Annan’s dream of becoming a professional songwriter and performer alive by working to get his songs and recordings more on-the-air exposure."
This record showcases two very different singing styles utilized by Mr. Annan -- after all, he was the King of Karaoke, right? Both are country. However, the Snoopy side is done in a highly stylized comedic voice and the b-side has a straightforward country vocal.
I am purposefully not providing a sound clip for this song because if I was a collector thinking about acquiring such an extremely rare recording, I would appreciate the fact that it is not easily available to anyone on eBay or YouTube at the click of a link.
The song's refrain goes like this:
Snoopy can't be president cause he ain't housebroken
It seems we found that Charlie Brown
wasn't strict enough on him
Gary, Walter, Jessie, too
and Ronnie takes the point of view

An opportunity for even the most advanced collector of Peanuts and Snoopy memorabilia, American novelty songs, and presidential campaign ephemera. This is an item that may not surface again any time soon.
