Description

Up for bid/sale is an extremely rare, early Racial Pride Record by JOE NORRIS, featuring the song(s) “SON OF MISSISSIPPI / ROCK OUT OF THIS WORLD”, this record was recorded on the SOM Record Label, #1001, this record was made in the USA in 1960 or 1961 (depending on the source of the information, most say 1961)

JOE NORRIS was the first one to record a song for the Segregation Label Reb - Rebel.  Here he is in a more Rockabilly style released earlier on the SOM Record Label.
The SOM record label was started by Huey Meaux in 1960 with the initial release of Joe Norris' great rocker, "Rock Out Of This World" / "Son Of Mississippi," SOM # 1001. He also had the second release on SOM with "Land Of The Pirogue" / "The Good Lord Giveth," SOM # 1002. Joe was an interesting character; he also was the voice behind "Flight NAACP 105" and other records on the Reb Rebel label. He recorded under the name "Son Of Mississippi" later in the sixties (1966),
