"Daydream Nation" was Sonic Youth's sixth album, and their first double-LP, clocking in at just over 70 minutes.

This was their last album recorded for an "independent" label (though "The Whitey Album" was released afterwards,

it was ready to go prior to Daydream's conception), and was arguably the record that drew the strongest major label attention.

It kicks off with the anthemic "Teenage Riot", again pairing Kim and Thurston vocally,

and never lets up, boasting an unprecedented three Lee songs, another Mike Watt appearance

(on the solemn piano/amp burnout collage "Providence"), and the sprawling "Trilogy" which closes the record

at the time and this pressing was certainly for the US market

GATEFOLD SLEEVE + FOLD-OUT BLACK & WHITE POSTER OF THE BAND

The cover features a painting by Gerhard Richter entitled "Kerze" from 1983 -- the back cover features Richter's 1982 "Kerze".
The vinyl jacket is a gatefold, both 12"s are in plain white sleeves. The gatefold depicts a large Michael Lavine
photograph of the band from August '88, along with the track list for each side and the production/art credits.
The vinyl labels themselves each feature a symbol representing one member of Sonic Youth

By refining the song-oriented breakthroughs of Sister and developing their fascination with noise and alternate tunings,
Sonic Youth created a masterpiece of post-punk art rock with the double-album Daydream Nation.
Though the self-conscious sprawl of the album might appear self-indulgent on the surface,
Daydream Nation is powered by a sustained vision, one that encapsulates all of the group's quirks and strengths.
Alternating between tense, hypnotic instrumental passages and furious noise explosions,
the music demonstrates a range of emotions and textures, and in many ways,
it's hard not to listen to the record as one long piece of shifting dynamics...(AllMusic)
