Description
After Trumpet Records folded, Sonny Boy Williamson II had his first recording session for Checker Records on August 12, 1955, during which he recorded "Don't Start Me Talkin'" and "All My Love in Vain"; this record was released as a single a month later in September.
Backing Williamson on this record were Otis Spann on piano, Muddy Waters and Jimmy Rogers on guitar, Willie Dixon on bass, and Fred Below on drums. Williamson recorded a total of some 70 songs for Chess, a subsidiary of Checker Records between 1955 and 1964.
This is an original copy of this 78 and features "Don't Start me Talkin'" on one side (ARC #7890), and "All My Love in Vain" (#ARC 7891) on the other side, a song which was later covered by the Rolling Stones on their album 'Let it Bleed'.
This record comes in a brown sleeve (not the original) which was allegedly signed by Sonny Boy (see photo 3). I cannot swear that this is Williamson's signature, but I did buy the record when I was staying in Chicago in the 1980s, so there is a good chance that it could be.
The 78 is in very good original condition with no deep scratches on either side. It does have some scuffs commensorate with its age, but still plays well on my record player.
An unusual and very interesting item which would greatly enhance any collection of blues music.
