Sonny Burns began his career in Eddie Noack's band before moving to Galveston moved. Even then he was a member of KNUZ Houston Hometown Jamboree , a radio program that was broadcast every Saturday night live. During one of these shows he married in public on May 22, 1954 at the City Auditorium. However, the marriage did not last long. That same year he met the young George Jones with a friend. Jones was just out of the army was dismissed and was now trying to be a musician. The two became fast friends and singers appeared together in small clubs and bars. That same year, the hard-drinking Burns got a request of Starday Records , take plates. Along with Jones, he took his first two titles on, Heartbroken Me and Tell Her , which sold well.

After Burns played some more disk, this time solo. Real Cool Cat with Hal Harris on guitar became his best-known titles. Although only a few more plates at Starday more published and Sonny Fisher still guitar played on a recording, label owner Pappy Dailey Burns announced but because Jones had far more success and was to become one of the most successful country artist ever later. However, Burns was not so lucky, the persistent failure bothered him and he began an excessive amount of alcohol to consume. Nevertheless, he again got in the 1960s a recording contract with United Artists , the success did not materialize, however.

Today Sonny Burns lives in his hometown Nacogdoches , Texas
