Description

When this record was made (1956-57), Sonny Rollins played with the Max Roach Quintet, and he he made several classic albums for Prestige with Roach and others from the group. This one (Prestige 7095--"Prestige Records, 447 W 50th NY 19, NY") is among the more elusive for the collector.

This tribute to Charlie Parker takes the form of a medley of seven standards associated with Bird. There is also a lilting Rollins waltz, "Kids Know," as well as a balladic exploration of "I've Grown Accustomed to Your Face." With Kenny Dorham, Wade Legge, George Morrow and Max Roach.

Brilliant jazz, great sound. No further praise needed from me for this rather scarce record, Prestige 7095 on the original deep-groove black and yellow label, here offered in lovely NM condition.

This was carefully and thoroughly auditioned with a Goldring 1042 cartridge, and a Grado mono cartridge, with Sennheiser 600 headphones/Epos ES-25 speakers.

I hesitate to use superlatives, but here they're deserved--this disc's in astonishing condition, a true velvety NM. The thick shiny record looks beautiful. You're highly unlikely to find better sounding copy anywhere.

The solid, bright & crisp jacket has only some minor wear, and some foxing on the back, thus a VG+ or better.

I've added a new poly-lined inner sleeve, and slipped the jacket into a new Japanese mylar resealable outer sleeve.
